There is no more fundamental design principle than the value of people. Only when people believe that a place is important does it become important. While the process of design is crucial, how that process involves and affects people is the more critical element.

Urban Design Challenge

River City Company launched the Urban Design Challenge, a yearlong design competition for local architects, planners and artists, in 2011. Six urban design teams were engaged to produce visions for the future of key downtown and present them to the public over the course of the year. The project resuscitated a waning community dialogue, hearkened back to the roots of Chattanooga’s revival, and engaged our next generation in design-minded civic discourse.
